History
The story of Robert's Awards and Advertising Speciaties is the story of American enterprise, romance and gumption. It is the saga of Robert Sherod's transformation from a student at Cleveland State University in Ohio into a U.S. Army Air Corp Captain flying missions across China in WWII. It is the happy ending: returning pilot continues in government work, honing skills in the world of bowling, opening his own business, meets and marries a lovely lady who shares in his love for his business...and obviously adores him.
What began in San Leandro in 1959 as "A Shop for Bowlers" capitalized on Bob's business acumen and enthusiasm for bowling. In 1963, fearless of change and adapting to the need of a broader market base, the business was redefined as "Robert's Trophies."
Still utilizing the bowling world as a way of networking the sales of trophies, Bob became acquainted with Candy Patterson, a waitress at the Manor Bowl, and trained her to become an engraver. They were married in 1970. Their alliance enabled Bob to handle sales while Candy managed Robert's Trophies.
In 1984, while celebrating his 25th year in business, Robert's moved into a 4000 sq. ft. building on Hays Street and changed the name to Robert's Awards and Advertising Speciaties.
Today, Robert's serves statewide clientele, featuring high-tech equipment and state-of-the-art trophies, awards and promotional products. Robert's has provided national leadership in the recognition field since its inception in 1959.
It is well worth the time to visit Robert's showroom and view the handsomely displayed samples of business and organization gifts. The tradition of excellent service is insisted upon by Cheryl Gray, one of five daughters who now serves as General Manager.
If it is an engraving matter, Candy is there to consult with you. A copy of your engraving order will be carefully filed and kept up to five years for your reference. Robert's experience teaches that once a customer, there will be repeat business.
As for Bob Sherod, he's still out in the field selling - even though he is semi-retired, officially.
